Twirlaloop Developer Story on Medium

This article was taken down by the author. I guess Watch Apps aren’t doing as well as he thought.

I interviewed for an article by, it’s the story of developing Twirlaloop for the Apple Watch. Please have a read and click recommend at the bottom. So far Twirlaloop is slowly growing, I’m getting the word out and getting a few extra downloads a day. I’m also going to keep at it, making the product better and better. There will be a good update hopefully this week, and another right after to improve the gameplay and graphics.

Twirlaloop Slots for Apple Watch

I’ve been creating slot games as my full time job for years and I finally made something on my own. It’s a small project made for the Apple Watch that was developed in one month, with a language I hardly know (Swift) on a device that doesn’t exist yet, which I thought was pretty funny. I tried to release the app at the same time as the Apple Watch but I couldn’t due to the fact I needed the real watch to test it on. I could have just submitted the app without testing on a real device, but the Apple Developer forums said it wasn’t a good idea. Turns out they were right because the app definitely did not work on the first try and I would have been rejected anyway. I submitted to the AppStore about 1 day after I received the watch on April 24th. It then took around 6 days, then I got rejected because my in-app purchases were incorrect. Another 6 days passed and it is finally approved and out in the wilderness.

My philosophy for this app is that it should fit the watch nicely, so I kept all the slot games at 3×3 so it would fit fullscreen and look elegant. When you tap anywhere on the screen it spins. Also it is able to be played on both devices, whereas most competing apps will only have the game run on the watch because thats all they focused on. I made the app like a standard social slot casino app with leaderboards and coin in-app purchases. The social aspect is not strong, I could have added more Facebook features. At least it has Game Center leaderboards and achievements.

The first few days of marketing the app is rough. An app developer is pretty much hung out to dry by themselves, I only have 8 downloads so far. All the marketing is left up to me. From what I’ve heard there is no more “new” lists on the AppStore. So hopefully this app can survive on its own, I can sell the idea, or in the very least it’s a resume enhancer.
